Bruins’ Midfielder honored as scholar-athlete by NCCAA

The NCCAA has released their end of season awards for the 2012 soccer season. All across the nation, student-athletes and coaches were recognized for accomplishments on and off the field. Among the recipients was Bruins' midfielder Jordan Allen. While Allen was a key factor in the Bruins' success this inagural season on the field, it was his work in the classroom that gained the attention of the NCCAA.

"Our desire is that our program excells in the classroom and on the field," Coach Jesse McCormick said. "We want our student-athletes to reach their full potential in all areas of their development."

Allen, a junior Bible major, was selected among a few student-athletes across the nation who excelled both on the field and in the classroom. While juggling a heavy academic load, a campus job and many hours of practice and games for the Bruins, Allen still maintained a 3.71 GPA and excelled on the field of play. Allen was one of the captains for the BJU Bruins and contributed to the team's success this season with 4 goals and 4 assists while playing in each of the Bruins' games.

The BJU Bruins' program stresses the importance of using the platform of athletics as a tool to reach people with the Gospel and to glorify God. One of the practical applications of that mission is the hard work and dedication shown by each student-athlete in the classroom. While success on the field is important and encouraged, it is the success in the classroom and in spiritual development that is of utmost importance.
