Kirkman Signs with Bruins

Point guard to join men's basketball team next season

Last week, the Bruins received another building block to their foundation when Cameron Kirkman signed a letter of intent to play for Bob Jones University next season. Kirkman currently plays for Heritage Christian School in Hickory, NC and is averaging 15 points, 8 assists, and 3.5 steals per game. He has shown great leadership on and off the floor and received All-Conference and First Team All-State honors for the NCCSA. For Kirkman, playing college basketball has always been a dream.

"I feel like it is a great fit for me at Bob Jones University," Kirkman said. "I feel blessed and privileged to be a part of this University. I am really excited to be here next year."

The BJU Bruins are excited for Kirkman to join the team as he will be able to provide depth at the point guard position. "Cameron has a very specific skillset," Coach Ring said. "He has great court vision and is a pass-first kind of point guard. He has a lot of transferable skills that he brings to the team. We're excited to have him." Kirkman will come to BJU in the fall of 2013.

He not only displays a good athletic ability on the court but also a passion for ministry. "He is already using sports as a ministry in his community," Coach Ring said. "He is a great fit for us, because we recognized very early that he had the athletic skill to play at this level, but also had the passion and desire to use sports for ministry."

Kirkman saw very early in the recruiting process that the BJU Bruins are passionate about showing Christ on and off the floor. "It's all about doing all things for the glory of God both on and off the court," Kirkman said. "That is what is attractive to me about this team. That's how I view sports, and I know that is what the Bruins are all about."

The Bruins are excited for Cameron Kirkman to be joining the team next season and are continuing to build on the foundation of this inaugural season.
