Inaugural Schedule Released for Bruins Shooting Sports

The Bob Jones University Bruins Shooting Sports team announced today their schedule for schedule for their inaugural season of competition. "We're very excited to begin this first season of the shooting program," Bruins Coach Mike Wilkie said. "Our students have been putting in a lot of work to prepare for the season and we look forward to seeing how God will use us this first year."

The program was announced in the fall of 2015. Over the past year, the Bruins shooting team has competed in a variety of local and regional events. This season, the Bruins will compete in five different matches over the course of the next five months. The team begins the season on Saturday as they compete in the Glock Shooting Sports Foundation Match (GSSF) in Charleston, South Carolina.

"Being on the shooting team has been an awesome experience," Bruins senior Matthew Bright said. "The shooting team has not only allowed us to improve our marksmanship skills, but it has also allowed for great opportunities to share Christ with others that we come in contact with at competitions. I'm excited to see what the 2017 season holds for our team!"

Each match for the 2016-17 season is part of the Scholastic Action Shooting Program. The Bruins will be competing against NCAA to NAIA programs. Notable programs such as Texas A&M, Michigan State, University of Kentucky and the United States Military Academy at West Point will be competing alongside the Bruins at several matches and tournaments this spring.

Shooters competed in four stages of steel targets. They are judged by their speed and accuracy in shooting. Competitors shoot 9mm pistols and .22 caliber pistols in each match and compete in team and open categories.
