Game Preview: BJU vs. Southern Wesleyan University

Bruins open the season on the road against the Warriors of SWU

On Saturday the Bruins men's soccer team will kick off their first regular season game on the road. The team will play the Southern Wesleyan Warriors, an NCCAA program ranked #4 in a national preseason poll. The Bruins and the Warriors faced off for the first time last year in the Bruins' historic inaugural game, with the Warriors walking away with an 8-4 victory. However, the Bruins are not planning on repeating history. The men's soccer team has been strong in preseason, winning all three of their games, and they hope to carry that momentum into the regular season.

Coach Jesse McCormick said there has been a significant progress in the Bruins defensive organization including marked improvement from the defensive line since the last time these two teams played. But even though the team is looking strong, they can't back down now. "The preseason matches were a big step in the right direction, but we also realize we must continue to improve every match to compete with the best teams regionally and nationally." In order for the Bruins to walk away with a win on Saturday night, McCormick said it will be important for all the players to stay engaged in the game.
