Bruins Cruise by Lions 4-1

Three first half goals fuel route of Piedmont College

Box Score

The Bruins welcomed in the Piedmont College Lions on Tuesday night to Alumni Stadium. The Bruins were coming off a 2-1 loss at the hands of St. Andrews University. The Lions came into Tuesday night at 0-2 after being outscored by their opponents 5-0 in their first two games. The summer heat would definitely play a factor in this match as the early-September weather would yield a hot and muggy match for both these teams.

From the opening kickoff, the Bruins came out strong and took possession right from the start. The Bruins executed very crisp passes and were able to generate a lot of open looks on net. Ryan McCarty helped to fuel the Bruins offensive firepower as he set up his teammates and helped to work the ball around the Lions defense. In the 21st minute, Matt Moore received a beautiful pass from Ryan McCarty and he buried the shot to put the Bruins up 1-0. In the next ten minutes, the Bruins caught fire and scored back to back goals from Andrew Moisant and Ryan McCarty to end the half at 3-0 Bruins.

"We were able to possess a lot better tonight which is something we have been working on," Ryan McCarty said. "It's all about generating runs for our offense which is something we were able to do well."

In the second half, the Bruins continued to keep up the pressure and force the Lions to turn the ball over. With the game in hand, Coach McCormick gave starting goalkeeper Joseph Wooster some time to rest and replaced him with backup Cam Lawson. The Bruins added to the score line with a goal from Matt Moore, his second of the game to go up 4-0. Near the end of the second half, the Lions capitalized on a defensive lapse and fired a low shot past Lawson to put Piedmont on the board 4-1. The final buzzer sounded giving the Bruins their first win of the season.

"It is good to get some confidence and get some goals in the net," Coach McCormick said. "We have a lot of positives to take away from this game. Part of magnifying Christ is giving our all every time we step on the field. Some things need to be sharper and more crisp but overall a good game for us."

Matt Moore led the way for the Bruins with 2 goals, while Ryan McCarty added 1 goal and 3 assists.

The Bruins will travel to Toccoa Falls on Thursday for a match against the Eagles.
