Box Score The Bruins played the last of their three-game road trip on Monday night as they traveled to Georgia for a matchup with the Piedmont College Lions. The Bruins were coming off back to back losses at the hands of Truett-McConnell College and Emmanuel College. Piedmont College entered Monday's match with a 6-4 record having won four of their last six matches.
In the opening minutes, the Bruins looked hungry for the win as they came out with good possession and combination play. The team nearly struck first as AJ Redlinger blasted a rocket shot off the post. The Bruins kept up the pressure as John Wilson and AJ Redlinger worked into open lanes for shots. Despite their opportunities, the Bruins ended the half tied with Piedmont 0-0.
As the second half began, the Bruins were determined to make better use of their opportunities. In the 65th minute, a cross by Jared Simmons was headed by Garrett Martin into the back of the net to give the Bruins a 1-0 advantage. The team didn't let up as the Bruins continued to pound the Lions' net with shots. The Lions had opportunities of their own, but great defensive play by the team and several key saves by Bruins' goalie Joseph Wooster allowed the team to come away with a 1-0 victory on the road.
"We had more possession in this game," Coach Jesse McCormick said. "It was great to get a win but we could have had better composure and consistency in possession and decision making."
The Bruins outshot the Lions 19-15. Garrett Martin picked up his 2nd goal of the season and Jared Simmons added his second assist on the year. Joseph Wooster picked up his first clean sheet of the season as the Bruins improve to 4-6 on the season.
Next up, the Bruins will welcome Tennessee Temple University on Friday night to Greenville.
