Cavaliers Snap Bruins Winning Streak 5-1

Montreat College hands BJU a tough road loss on Tuesday afternoon

Box Score
Three first-half goals proved to be too much to overcome as the Montreat College Cavaliers routed the Bob Jones University Bruins 5-1 on Tuesday afternoon in Montreat, North Carolina.

"I give them credit for having good movement in the attack," Coach Jesse McCormick said. "At the same time we made some mistakes that really cost us in this match."

The Bruins entered the match on Tuesday with a 5-2 record and were riding a 3-game winning streak. The Cavaliers entered with a 2-3-2 record and had lost two of their last three games.

From the opening kickoff, the Cavaliers were able to execute crisp passing and took care of possession to move the ball into the attacking third. The Bruins tried to counter and got some impressive play from freshman Stephen Grider who had four shots on frame throughout the match. The Cavaliers took advantage of their opportunities as the team notched three goals throughout the first forty-five minutes to take a 3-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Bruins tried to claw their way back into the game, but their urgency on offense allowed quick transition for the Cavaliers as Montreat scored twice more to extend their lead 5-0.

Bruins forward Stephen Grider prevented the shutout in the 78th minute as he received a great pass from Will Peek and buried the shot in the back of the net to make it 5-1. Unfortunately, that goal accounted for all the Bruins scoring as the team fell 5-1 to Montreat College.

"We really needed all 11 players today and we just didn't play at the level we needed to," Coach McCormick said. "Looking forward to getting back on track next game."

Stephen Grider scored his 3rd goal of the 2015 season and Will Peek picked up his 2nd assist of the year. With the loss, the team falls to 5-3 on the season. Next up, the Bruins will host Laurel University at 8 p.m. on Thursday night at Alumni Stadium.
