Matt Moore had 1 goal and 2 assists in the
Bruins 6-0 victory over Toccoa Falls College"Mentally the first half we just didn't show up to play," Coach Jesse McCormick said. "We really weren't playing well at all but halftime we made the adjustments we needed and in the second half we did a much better job of playing how we are capable of."
The Bruins were coming off a 4-1 loss in their home opener to St. Andrews University in which the team had several key mistakes costing them the match. They were determined to not let that happen again in front of the hometown fans.
As the match began, the Bruins did a good job of possessing the ball and moving towards the Eagles net. Despite creating opportunities, the team kept failing to capitalize in the opening minutes as extra passes and turnovers yielded no results. The Bruins finally broke into the scoring column at the halfway point of the first half as John Wilson drove around three separate Eagles defenders and
slid a shot past goalkeeper Tyler Standridge to put the Bruins up 1-0.
The Bruins would add another in the 36th minute of play as Will Peek threaded a beautiful pass to
Ryan McCarty who buried the shot to make it 2-0. Even with the lead, the Bruins knew their play could be better as they went into the halftime break up 2-0.
"It was really frustrating because we didn't come out and do what we needed to do," Coach McCormick said. The Bruins outshot Toccoa Falls 12-2 in the 1st half, but only had 4 shots on goal.
In the 2nd half, the halftime adjustments worked well as the Bruins came out very crisp and strong in the opening minutes. Just three minutes into the half, Bryce Colon finished a corner kick opportunity, with a
highlight-reel volley shot into the back of the net to put the Bruins up 3-0. The team wasn't finished as minutes later, Matt Moore received a header-pass from John Wilson and
placed a low shot into the back of the net to make it 4-0.
Continuing to keep the pressure on, the Bruins got goals from
Travis Woodham and
AJ Redlinger en route to a 6-0 shutout of Toccoa Falls College.
"We have to work on being consistent with our play," Coach McCormick said. "The moments we were playing really sharp in the 2nd half, that's the speed and focus we need to have. We just have to take every opportunity to get better."
Matt Moore led the way for the Bruins with 1 goal and 2 assists in the match. Ryan McCarty and John Wilson each recorded 1 goal and 1 assist.
