Hawks Rout Bruins 6-0

Team struggles early on in road loss to Chowan University

Box Score
Chowan University came out strong from the gate as the Hawks scored three goals in each half to defeat the Bob Jones University Bruins 6-0 on Saturday afternoon in Murfreesboro, North Carolina.

"We just did not show up to play today," Bruins Coach Jesse McCormick said.

The Hawks snapped the Bruins three-game winning streak as BJU had entered the game with victories over Point University, Toccoa Falls College and John Wesley University.

From the opening kickoff, the Hawks jumped right out of the gate and moved the ball effectively to gain looks on frame. The Bruins defense had trouble slowing down the Hawks attack as keeper Andrew Kester was pressured throughout the match. The Hawks broke the scoreless draw in the 27th minute as Lee Wattam scored to put Chowan ahead 1-0. Less than three minutes later, the Hawks would score again to take a 2-0 lead.

The Bruins looked for a counter attack, but the transition game was ineffective for the team as they struggled to move the ball into the attacking third. Chowan tacked on one goal late in the half to take a 3-0 lead into the break.

In the second half, the Hawks high pressure offense continued to bombard the Bruins net with shots. Just over eleven minutes into the half, the Hawks scored again to gain a 4-0 advantage. The Bruins desperately tried to claw their way back into the game, but the team was only able to generate three shots on frame throughout the match. Chowan scored two more goals late in the half to run away with a 6-0 victory.

With the loss, the Bruins fall to 4-8 on the season. The Bruins were outshot by the Hawks 24-3 throughout the match. Next up, the Bruins will return home for their homecoming match on Saturday night as they battle Columbia International University at 7 p.m.
