The Bruins men's soccer team suffered a tough loss on Tuesday night as they fell to Columbia International University 6-0. The loss is the 4th straight for the team as the Bruins fall to 4-9 on the season.
"I have to give credit to CIU," Bruins Head Coach Jesse McCormick said. "They came out strong and we did not match their intensity from the start."
The two teams met earlier in the season with the Bruins winning the match 3-0. On this night, the Rams would control the match from start to finish in the shutout.
Ricky Prestridge started off the scoring for the Rams in the 14th minute to put CIU up 1-0. Less than a minute later, the Rams struck again as Nhiet Rocham scored to make the lead 2-0. The Rams continued to ride the energy of their home crowd as they continued to control possession and tempo. As the half was coming to a close, the Rams added two more goals to take a 4-0 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Bruins tried to come out with some energy, but the team struggled to generate any consistent scoring chances. The Rams would add another goal in the 56th minute to extend their lead to 5-0. From there, the Rams continued to dominate possession and play as they notched their 6th goal of the match in the 78th minute to shutout the Bruins 6-0.
"We need to learn from this loss," Coach McCormick said. "We had some good movement in the second half but we struggled to finish. We need to come out strong in every remaining match starting with our homecoming match on Saturday."
The Bruins were out shot 22-8 in the match including a 10-3 margin in shots on goal. With the loss, the team falls to 4-9 on the season. Next up, the Bruins will host Trinity Baptist College on Saturday night for their Homecoming match at Alumni Stadium.
