Bruins Open Preseason Play with 3-0 Loss to Lions

Preseason play got underway on Friday night for the Bob Jones University Bruins men's soccer team as they traveled to Franklin Springs, Georgia for a matchup with Emmanuel College. Despite several bright spots throughout the scrimmage, the Bruins found themselves on the losing end of a 3-0 score.

"Putting things into perspective with a young team with only three days of training, I was very encouraged with our potential for this year," Bruins Head Coach Jesse McCormick said.

The team arrived for preseason training on Monday and got right to work with fitness testing and preparations for the 2018 campaign. With nine freshmen on the squad this season, the Bruins were testing out several tactical assignments as they took the pitch.

In the opening minutes of the match, the two teams went back and forth with both trying to establish the pace of play. The Lions were able to move the ball into the attacking third, but the Bruins defense cleared away chances. As the half came to a close, the Lions were able to find the back of the net to go ahead 1-0. Just minutes later, the deficit grew for the Bruins as EC notched another goal to make it 2-0 at the break.

As the second half began, the Lions put the game out of reach with another goal to make it 3-0. Still, the Bruins were able to execute good combinations in play and had several good chances on frame. A great pass from Sebastian Sulik was nearly finished by Bruins' captain Karl Walker but the match ended with the Bruins falling 3-0.

The Bruins will finish their preseason exhibitions on Monday night as they travel to Misenheimer, North Carolina for a matchup with Pfeiffer University.
