Bruins Edge Falcons 1-0 to Wrap Up Preseason Play

Andrew Peterson scored a goal late for the Bruins off a penalty kick as the team overcame lightning delays and fatigue to capture a 1-0 win over Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, North Carolina on Tuesday night. This was the final scrimmage for the preseason for the team. Twice over the course of the scrimmage the match was stopped for weather.

"We saw a lot of improvement in our transition to attach and in moving the ball into the midfield," Bruins Head Coach Jesse McCormick said.

From the opening kickoff, the Bruins were able to play well defensively as they turned aside the Falcons opportunities. Isaac Landry came up with several big saves for the team as the first half ended 0-0.

In the second half, the Bruins were able to generate more of an offensive attack as midfield play and ball movement opened up space. With just minutes remaining in the match, Andrew Peterson found his way around the defense and looked to score. He was fouled in the box, awarding the Bruins with a penalty shot. Peterson confidently buried the ball in the back of the net as the Bruins walked away with a 1-0 victory.

"We had a great team effort," Coach McCormick said. "Defensively we played well and Isaac played very well in goal. We also had some freshmen really step up for us."

The Bruins will be back in practice this week as the team prepares for the season opener on Saturday. The Bruins will kickoff the 2018 regular season as they welcome Spartanburg Methodist University to Alumni Stadium.
