Wildcats Shutout Bruins 2-0

Lack of offensive execution plagued the Bruins as the team fell to the Johnson and Wales Wildcats 2-0 at Alumni Stadium Wednesday afternoon. The first half began with both teams playing physical as each struggled to gain an advantage. "Overall in the first half we stayed with it," Bruins Head Coach Jesse McCormick. "We were not as dynamic in the final third, but other than that we did well in the first half."

The first real scoring chance came when Jesse Rush was fouled inside the box. Unfortunately for the Bruins, Wildcat keeper Julio Pena made a diving save on the PK that deflected back to Rush and Rush could score on the rebounding attempt resulting in another save for Pena.

The wildcats wasted no time trying to capitalize on the momentum quickly pushing the ball into the Bruin's box. Less than a minute after the save, Weeb Isaac netted the first goal of the game off a pass from Tito Villanueva to give the lions a 1-0 lead. That goal would be the only one of the first half as the Bruins trailed 1-0 at the break.

In the second half, the Bruins appeared to let the heat affect their sense of urgency. Meanwhile, the Wildcats rose their level of play, quickly pushing the ball into the attacking third and winning the majority of the fifty-fifty balls. The lone goal of the second half came in the sixty-fourth minute when striker Brandon Greene maneuvered and fired a shot into the top right corner of the goal, just out of keeper Isaac Landry's reach.

The remainder of the match saw several scoring attempts for the Bruins, but the team couldn't find the back of the net as the final buzzer handed them a 2-0 loss.

"We came out flat in the second half and that's just unacceptable," Coach McCormick said. "Our complacency early in the second help give them confidence and it made more difficult for us."

The wildcats out shot the Bruins 14-11, including a 6-3 shots on goal advantage. Landry tallied four saves for the Bruins. With the loss, the Bruins fall to 1-4-1 on the year. The team will return to action on Saturday as the team travels to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to face off against Piedmont International University.
