Costly mental errors plagued the Bruins from the initial touch tonight as the team fell 7-0 to the Bryan College Lions at Alumni Stadium. With the loss, the Bruins fall to 0-3 on the season with all three losses coming by way of shutout.
"The first half we just did not do what we needed to do, and it was stuff that we had talked about," Bruins Head Coach Jesse McCormick said.
The game began after a slight weather delay. However, the delay had no effect on the Lion's offense. Just under eight minutes into the game, Jonathan Ricketts scored the first goal of the game off a deflected save by Bruins keeper Isaac Landry.
Less than three minutes later, the Lions again found the back of the net as Ricketts found Lucas Matos unmarked in the box to make the score 2-0. In the fourteenth minute, senior forward Charlie Clark scored a beautiful header as the lead increased to 3-0 for Bryan College.
The Bruins tried to build some momentum before the half, but a costly penalty by Bruin defender Casey Miller lead to a penalty kick goal from Bradley Spooner, derailing the Bruins once again. The Lions finished off their scoring in the first half on a strike from Dombrowski, giving the 5-0 edge going into the break.
The second half began in much of the same way as the first half ended. Just over ten minutes into the second half, Dombrowski tallied his second goal of the evening, making the score 6-0. The Lions eventually notched another goal off the foot of Haaris Hussain to finish out the scoring for the game 7-0.
Despite the struggles, Coach McCormick found positives in the team's play in the second half. "The second half we did a better job tracking runners, and honestly mentally we were a lot more consistent in the second half," McCormick said.
The Bruins struggled offensively as they were outshot 26-3 by the Lions in the match including a 16-1 on-goal margin. The Bruins are looking to bounce back in their region opener on Friday night as they play host to Toccoa Falls College.
