Bruins Pickup Region Win with 3-1 Victory Over Toccoa Falls

The Bruins picked up another region win on the season as the team defeated Toccoa Falls College 3-1 on Tuesday night at Alumni Stadium. With the win, the Bruins improve to 3-8 on the season and 2-1 in region play.

"It's good to get a win against someone in our league and it sets us up well," Bruins Head Coach Matt Hotchkin said. "We were moving the ball pretty well and we've been working on our offensive game so to get three guys scoring goals was good for us."

The Bruins came into the match on the heels of a dominant performance in which the team shutout Johnson University 6-0. As the team took the pitch against the Screaming Eagles, they looked to keep up their winning ways in front of the hometown crowd.

From the opening kickoff, the Bruins came out strong with good possession and passing which created lanes to score. The team was able to pressure the Eagles net and broke into the scoring column in the 13th minute thanks to a goal from Jesse Rush as the Bruins led 1-0.

The Bruins continued to possess well as they out shot the Eagles 22-5 in the opening half. The team added their second goal of the night as David Dume scored off an assist from Andrew Zhang to give the Bruins a 2-0 lead. Despite several additional chances to score, the Bruins couldn't add to their lead as they went into halftime up 2-0.

In the second half, the Bruins came out looking to stretch their lead. The good combination play up front paid off as Sebastian Sulik netted a goal off an assist from Jesse Rush to increase the lead to 3-0.

The Eagles tried to claw their way back into the game and answered the Bruins goal just minutes later as Jalen Hunt scored to make it 3-1. The Bruins dug in their heels defensively as Luke Morcos and Caleb Adams played well on the back line to turn aside opportunities. As a result, the Bruins came away with a 3-1 victory thanks to an overall great performance by the team.

"We did a better job in the second half of finding the lanes to the forwards and being more direct up the middle," Bruins midfielder Jordan Crews said. "This win definitely helps with our confidence. We had a great mentality in practice and games and although some of these wins aren't pretty it helps us as we look forward to Saturday."

The Bruins out shot the Eagles 39-9 in the match including an 18-4 on goal margin. Jesse Rush picked up a goal and an assist for the team while David Dume scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season.

Next up, the Bruins will be back home again on Saturday night as the team welcomes another region-rival in Trinity Baptist College for the homecoming match. The Bruins will also honor the seniors on the roster during Saturday's match.
