Snow Scores Late as Bruins Shock Barons 2-1

With under a minute to play, the Bruins an Barons looked destined for extra time after BJU had fought back to tie the game in the second half. Instead, freshman Emma Snow scored on a beautiful free kick goal with just seconds remaining to help lead the Bruins to a 2-1 road victory over Brewton-Parker College.

"My teammates all pushed and that goal was not mine but ours," Snow said after the Bruins improved to 3-4 on the season. "We win as a team and lose as a team. So proud of these girls and our effort today. We could have had a different attitude going into the second half but instead we ramped it up and went all out."

The Bruins came into the match having won two of their last three games. Monday's match was the first of three of four road games coming up for the team. The Barons came into the game having dropped three straight and were hoping to get back into the win column on their home turf.

From the opening kickoff, the Barons came out with energy and possessed well as they attacked the Bruins net. Angelina Martin came up with several saves early on, but the Bruins defense struggled to contain the Barons.

The pressure eventually broke through as the Taylor Cornet scored for the Barons in the 22nd minute to make the score 1-0. The Bruins tried to respond, but the team couldn't seem to penetrate the Barons defense as the half ended with the Bruins trailing 1-0.

At halftime, Coach Carmichael changed some of the tactical strategy with the team with the hopes of generating more possession and offensive energy. It worked as the Bruins came out with a renewed sense of urgency as they were able to move the ball into the attacking third and creating several scoring chances on frame.

Mikayla Rajcan scored her first goal of the season as she bent a beautiful shot off a corner kick into net to tie the game at 1-1. The Bruins now had momentum and it showed as they continued to create scoring chances.

With under five minutes to go, the Bruins and Barons continued to look for the upper hand. The Bruins were fouled with under a minute to play. With the clock continuing to run, the Bruins rushed into formation as Emma Snow prepared for the set piece.

Snow rifled a low shot past the wll of defenders and bent it into the lower right side of the net. The Barons fans were stunned as the buzzer sounded to give the Bruins a walkoff winner late in the game.

"Our players stepped up in the second half and just never quit," Bruins Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "We switched up our system of play at halftime and our players responded well. They put in the effort all the way through to notch the win. I couldn't ask for a better team that kept their chins up through the toughest parts of the game to come from behind to win."

Despite being outshot in the game, the Bruins made their efforts count in the win while Angelina Martin finished with five saves. Next up, the Bruins will be back home on Friday night as the team welcomes Piedmont International University to Alumni Stadium. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
