Comeback Falls Short as Crusaders Edge Bruins 87-76

The Bob Jones University Bruins battled back several times throughout the game, but the team couldn't stop the North Greenville Crusaders as they fell 87-76 on Tuesday night in the Davis Field House. With the loss, the Bruins fall back to .500 on the season at 11-11.

The pace of the game started off fast and only got faster. Both teams moved the ball quickly, as the score remained close in the early stages. The Crusaders began to pull away thanks to the shooting touch of C.J. Jamison as they built a double-digit lead.

Cam McKennedy provided a spark to bring the Bruins back as the senior knocked down back to back threes and added a layup to bring the team back to tie the game at 31-31. The two teams went back and forth but the Crusaders took a 39-37 lead into halftime.

The second half began optimistically for the Bruins. However, that optimism quickly faltered as the Crusaders took another 10-point lead within the first five minutes of the half. The Bruins tried to fight back, but continued to beat themselves with turnovers. Each time the team would pull within striking distance, a key shot by the Crusaders would spark another short run to stretch the lead.

With three minutes to play, the Bruins battled back as Kendall Norrington provided a spark off the bench to help the team battle back to trail 74-70. The Bruins had grabbed momentum as they looked to complete the comeback and get the win. Instead, the Crusaders were able to hit a key three and then iced the victory with free throws down the stretch as they held on for a 87-76 win.

In the second half the Bruins' shot percentage dropped while the Crusaders' rose. Both teams made field goals around 45 percent of the time, but the Crusaders' 3-point accuracy made the difference. The Crusaders made 11 3-point shots while the Bruins only made five.

After the game Bruins Head Coach Burton Uwarow and forward Zac Orr gave some insight into the game. "We fought back hard, we just couldn't pull it out as a team," Orr said after finishing with 6 points and 2 rebounds while shooting 3-3 from the field. "But I have faith in my teammates, and we'll get back and we'll make the changes that we need to make."

Devin Dean led the Bruins with 16 points and 4 rebounds in the game while Cam McKennedy also finished with 13 points, 3 assists and 2 steals. Next up, the Bruins will play at home again on Thursday night as they welcome Erskine College at 7 p.m.
