In front of over 700 traveling fans at a new venue and updated kickoff time, the men's soccer team put on a show to defeat Johnson and Wales University 5-0 at Legacy Early College field for Saturday's homecoming match. The victory is the sixth straight win and third consecutive clean sheet for the Bruins as the team improves to 10-2-1 on the season.
"We've been able to score a lot of goals the last couple games, and as our season is ramping back up tonight was a big opportunity for us to come out strong or take steps back," said Coach Greg Fulton. "The message before the game was to continue building momentum as we're in the second half of the season going into our tournament in a couple of weeks. The goals we scored were amazing, and ultimately scoring five goals against a quality opponent is great."
From the start of the match the Wildcats looked to create chances, with an early shot and corner kick opportunity, but the Bruins answered back in the 12th minute as leading goal-scorer Victor Oladipo would head the ball into the back of the net with the help of Caleb Adams.
As the first half continued, Ian Arendse would send in a corner kick and Peter Waddy was there to capitalize and double the Bruins lead. Both teams would look for scoring opportunities as the first half winded down, but the first 45' ended with the Bruins leading 2-0.
In the 54th minute, Ian Arendse and Jean Carerro would score goals just 30 seconds apart to bring the score up to 4-0. Ten minutes later, Peter Waddy would earn a brace scoring his second goal of the night and bringing the goal count to five.
"We're going to challenge ourselves in our last few matches," said Fulton. "I love that the team came through tonight in scoring on their chances, and we look forward to playing at Furman on Tuesday."
Next up, the Bruins go down the road to face off against NCAA DI opponent, Furman University. The kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
