Bruins Battle Through Double Overtime to 0-0 Draw in Regular Season Finale

It was a tight game as the Bruins battled for 110 minutes to a 0-0 draw against Erskine College. With today's result, the Bruins have finished their regular season 17-1-1 and remain undefeated through their last 17 matches.

"The team did a phenomenal job battling through 90 hard minutes plus two overtime periods, and I couldn't be more proud of the effort they put in today," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "We had a very questionable call at best that took away our goal which would have been the game winner, but we had several other chances to put the game away and fell just a little short."

The match began with the Bruins applying pressure on the Flying Fleet in the early minutes, but the game would eventually even out with both sides battling for that first goal. With 20 minutes remaining in the first half, the Bruins would get the ball into the back of the net, but the goal would be overturned due to a foul right before the shot, and the first half would end with both sides still looking for a goal.

The Fleet did their best to get a goal past the Bruins back line in the second half, but goalkeeper Susanna Hutson would stand on her head making several "elite and highlight level saves that kept us in the game," said Carmichael.

But 90 minutes wasn't enough to decide today's contest as the score would remain 0-0 at the end of regulation.

As the game went into the first overtime period, Mia Marks would have one of the best chances of the 10 minute for the Bruins, but the Erskine keeper would shut down her chance. Both teams would go back on the pitch for the second overtime period where the Bruins would go on the attack, but 110 minutes of play wasn't enough for either team to notch the golden goal.

"Everyone did a great job not giving up and pushing through until the end," said defender Brynn Martin. "We had to overcome some hard calls but kept our heads up and finished the game strong."

"Despite the tie, the team was not satisfied as they worked really hard to get the win. They had their opportunities as did Erskine," said Carmichael. "We'll now get some time off for recovery and will work on getting ready for regionals in a few weeks."

Next up for the women's soccer team is the NCCAA DI Regional Tournament November 18-20. More details to come at bjubruins.com
