Bruins Unable to Catch Up and Fall to Owls On the Road

The Bruins fell 56-64 to Warren Wilson College in Asheville, North Carolina Tuesday evening.

"We hustled and worked really hard," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "We turned the ball over and didn't rebound and that is a recipe for poor results on the scoreboard. We can overcome poor shooting with great defense and rebounding, but we didn't get either of those tonight."

The women's basketball team came into Tuesday's game after defeating Agnes Scott College 87-47 in their season opener last Friday. Today's meeting was the 13th time the two schools have met.

From tip-off the Owls came out to a commanding start and went on to score 10 points before Bethany Daulton was able to make two free throws to get the Bruins on the board. The Bruins pushed hard to close the gap and a basket right at the buzzer would bring the score to 13-18 at the end of the first quarter.

Free throws by Tamrah Konieczka would get the Bruins on the board in the second quarter. The Bruins ended the second quarter trailing 23-34.

Coming out of halftime, the Bruins would continue to chip away at the deficit, but the Owls continued their lead through the rest of the game with the final score being 56-64.

"I feel like we let the atmosphere influence us, and we lost who we are a bit," said LeViere. "We had some great hustle but as someone once said, 'never mistake activity for achievement.' Moving forward we have to combine that hustle with being smart and composed."

The Bruins are back in front of fans this weekend as they take on Carolina University Friday night and face Welch College Saturday afternoon at home in the Davis Field House.
