Delaney Edwards scored a career-high 29 points in today's game, but it wasn't enough as the Bruins saw their second loss in as many games, falling 77-69 to Johnson & Wales University.
"We take the loss, but we're going to be a lot better team from this game, to learn, grow and overcome what we did," said Head Coach Mike LeViere.
The Bruins came into today's game on the heels of a 61-53 loss to Campbellsville University Harrodsburg Friday night. The Wildcats played Toccoa Falls COllege earlier Friday evening and were able to come away with the win.
As the game got underway, it was a tight game as both teams exchanged baskets and with four minutes remaining in the first half, the Bruins had a one point advantage over the Wildcats. But Johnson & Wales went on a 12 point run at the end of the first quarter to see the Bruins down 24-14 at the whistle.
The Wildcats increased their lead in the 2
nd quarter scoring six points before the Bruins were able to get three points thanks to Delaney Edwards. The Bruins looked to get back in a rhythm and came back to end the quarter down by ten.
After halftime, the Bruins came out firing going on an eight point run run to start the 3rd quarter. The Bruins would gain a small lead for the first time since the 1st quarter with just under two minutes remaining in the quarter. As the quarter came to the end, the Wildcats would hold on to a narrow four point lead.
The Wildcats got to a hot start in the fourth quarter increasing their lead, but the home team kept fighting and ended the game falling 77-69. With tonight's loss, the Bruins are now 5-7 on the season.
Delaney Edwards led tonight with 29 points, her highest in a game during her time as a Bruin, and 6 rebounds and filled the stat sheet in one of her best games this season.
As the team looks at their next game, Coach LeViere wants his team to come into next week's game with a lot of energy and to "focus on the things we can control and doing that to the best of our ability. If we do that, then we can walk away with our heads held high no matter what. That's our goal for every game, It doesn't matter what the scoreboard says, we have to control the things we can and fulfill our responsibilities and let everything else take care of itself."
Next up, the Bruins head across town to face USC Upstate next Thursday night before the holiday break.
