Men's Soccer Team Rounds Up Regular Season With a Win Over Shaw University

Competing in their final regular-season match of 2022, the Bob Jones University men's soccer team came away with the 1-0 victory over Shaw University in Wilson, North Carolina. The Bruins enter the post-season with a 10-4-1 season record.

"I am extremely proud of the team," said Head Coach Greg Fulton. "This may have been one of the uglier games that we have played, but we found a way to win and that is what is important as we enter the post season! We're entering the part of the year that there will absolutely be ugly games and having this type of warm-up and finding a way to win is invaluable to our progress. As always there are things that we need to improve on, but tonight my message to the team was how proud I am that they were able to grind it out."

The Bruins entered the game coming off of a narrow loss to Converse University on Saturday with Shaw University also recording a 1-0 loss on Saturday to Georgia Gwinnett College. This was the first time the men's soccer team saw themselves facing Shaw University in program history.

As the match kicked off, both teams saw chances but in the 31st minute, the Bruins earned a penalty kick. Going to the spot was Mario Figueroa. He slid the ball past the keeper and into the back of the net to give the Bruins the 1-0 advantage.

The Bruins held off the Bears for the remainder of the match to earn the 1-0 victory and come home with the clean sheet, their eighth of the season. Nearly even on shots, saves, corners and fouls, Wednesday's Bears vs Bruins showdown saw the Bruins come out on top in their regular-season finale.

Following the match, Coach Fulton said, "now we shift our focus to the post-season as we look to be healthy to enter the most crucial stage. It's incredible to me that we have finished our regular season, and I want to give all glory to God and to him alone for this team's journey so far. Soli Deo Gloria."

The Bruins finished the season 10-4-1 and will compete in the NCCAA South Region tournament next week at Trinity Baptist University in Jacksonville, Florida. Seeding and tournament times will be announced soon.
