The men's soccer team came up big with a 6-0 victory against Regent University Saturday night for the Bob Jones University Bruins Homecoming match. With tonight's victory the Bruins have extended their winning streak to seven games improving to 7-3-1 on the season.
"It was definitely good to get several scorers on the score sheet tonight and to take care of business," said Head Coach Greg Fulton. "Overall I feel like we rose to the occasion and we played as the better team. It was a great win for us."
As the game got underway, the Bruins got off to a quick start and just two minutes into the match Conley Burk would hit the crossbar in an attempt to kick off the scoring. And just a few minutes later, Burk would get the opportunity again as Matthias Baladi sent the ball forward where Burk would sail the ball into the back of the net giving the Bruins the 1-0 advantage.
They kept the shots coming throughout the first half, seeing a total of 24 through the first 45 minutes of play, but as the teams went into halftime the Bruins would only have one goal on the score sheet.
During halftime Coach Fulton spoke to his team about sticking to their game plan, and it paid off in the second half.
From the whistle, the Bruins went on the attack and just two minutes in, Rylan Boldt dispossessed the goalkeeper after he was unable to secure the ball to double the lead for the home team. Less than 10 minutes later, Bryce Ramler headed the ball into the ground where it bounced over the head of the goalkeeper see the Bruins lead extend to three.
The final three goals of the game came within three minutes of each other. Sam Gaddis tallied his first goal of the season as he made his way through traffic and shot the ball from outside the box for the Bruins fourth goal of the night. Up next was Matthias Baladi who also recorded his first goal of the season with a shot across the far side and into the back of the net with just 12 minutes remaining in the match. With 10 minutes left in the game, Jake Provenzano scored the final goal of the night for the Bruins.
The Bruins came away with a decisive victory against Regent University as they recorded 45 shots resulting in six goals. Tonight's game was the sixth clean sheet the Bruins have recorded this season.
"We've hit a bit of a streak which is always great. We want to build momentum and keep it" said Fulton. "But we can't get complacent and that's been the message this past several games."
Up next, the Bruins will host Southern Wesleyan University for Senior Night on Tuesday, October 11 at Alumni Stadium in Greenville, South Carolina.
