The post-season continues for the Bob Jones University men's soccer team as they get ready to compete at the NCCAA DII National Championship. After winning the NCCAA DII South Region Tournament, the Bruins men's soccer team enters this week's National Tournament as the #1 seed. Pool play of the NCCAA DII National Tournament kicks off Tuesday afternoon at the Austin-Tindall Sports Complex in Kissimmee, Florida and the top teams from each pool will face each other in the championship game on Saturday, November 19.
"This week is special," said Head Coach Greg Fulton. "We work really hard all year as a team to be in this position. God has blessed us with the opportunity to compete for His glory and we don't take that lightly. We know the target is on our back and it will take a special week for us to accomplish our goal of winning another national title. We set out to be the best in every detail and control everything we can control and leave the rest to God."
The Bruins come into the national tournament after beating Pensacola Christian College 3-2 to claim their third straight South Region Championship. The men's program went undefeated in conference play this season and are 12-4-1. They have a target on their back coming into the tournament strong and looking to win back-to-back titles.
Six teams will make the trip to Florida representing five states and two countries. These teams will be divided into two groups as the first three days of competition will be pool play competition with the winners of each pool competing in the championship game on Saturday. The tournament seeding is as follows:
- #1 - Bob Jones University (Greenville, SC)
- #2 - Providence University College (Manitoba, Canada)
- #3 - Grace Christian University (Grand Rapids, MI)
- #4 - Randall University (Moore, OK)
- #5 - Crown College (Saint Bonifacius, MN)
- #6 - Kansas Christian College (Overland Park, KS)
The Bruins will kick off the tournament with a 12 p.m. pool play game against #5 Crown College. Crown enters the tournament after defeating Providence University College in the North Region Championship and finished the season 8-12-3. This will be the first meeting between the two programs.
After having Wednesday off of games, the Bruins will finish up pool play on Thursday by taking on #4 Randall University at 12 p.m. The Saints head into the tournament after sweeping both games in their regional tournament. Bob Jones and Randall University have met twice before, both at the NCCAA DII National Tournament. In 2020, the Bruins fell in a double overtime loss to the Saints in the championship game. Last season, the Bruins were able to avenge their 2020 loss and come away with the 2-1 win to take home the 2021 NCCAA DII National Championship title.
Should the Bruins advance out of pool play, they will battle for a back-to-back national championship on Saturday, November 19. The title match is scheduled to kickoff at 12:30 p.m. in Kissimmee, Florida.
"We are prepared, we are ready, and we are excited to have fun together for God's glory alone."
