Bruins Bounce Back with 79-71 Win Over Chargers

The Bruins were able to avenge a region loss on Friday night as the team battled back to defeat Southeastern Baptist College 79-71 on Saturday in Laurel, Mississippi. Four Bruins scored in double figures as the team improved to 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in South region play.

"This was a great comeback win for us," Bruins Head Coach Burton Uwarow said. "These games give us a glimpse at tournament setting and I was pleased with how we responded today. We have some work to do but look forward to Thanksgiving break to get some rest."

The Bruins dropped a tough game on Friday night to Southeastern as the team fell behind early before their comeback came up short in an 82-80 loss. On Saturday, the Bruins were back on the court looking to get back on track.

From the opening tip, the Bruins and Chargers came out strong as each looked to find the upper hand. The Bruins were able to move through their offensive sets which opened up lanes to score. The team got a big boost from Hayes Brush as the senior finished with a double-double 17 points and 13 rebounds.

The Chargers were able to keep pace as the Bruins couldn't pull away. Still, the team had the upper hand as the took a 38-29 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Bruins continued to play well on both sides of the ball as they continued to keep the lead. The Bruins got key contributions from a lot of players which made it hard for the Chargers to slow the Bruins.

As the final buzzer sounded, the Bruins were able to bounce back as the team held on for a 79-71 win. Four players scored in double figures with Stephan Hugley leading the way with 19 points and 11 rebounds while Hayes Brush and Henry Blair each had 17 and Brian Sims finished with 16.

Next up, the Bruins will have the week off for the Thanksgiving break before the team welcomes Berea College for the home opener on December 2. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Davis Field House.
