The Bruins basketball team plays their first home games of the 2022-23 season this weekend as the team will host Berea College and Asbury University in the Bruins Invitational. The Bruins have opened the season well on the road as the team sits at 2-1 on the season coming into this weekend.
The Bruins bounced back from their first loss of the season on November 18 as four players scored in double figures to help the team defeat Southeastern Baptist 79-71 in a South region matchup. Stephan Hugley led the way with a double-double 19 points and 14 rebounds while Hayes Brush also had a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds in the win.
On Friday, the Bruins will welcome Berea College for the home opener in the first ever matchup between these two programs. The Mountaineers enter the game at 4-3 on the season having dropped two of their last three games. Friday's game is set for 7 p.m. in the Davis Field House.
The Bruins will wrap up the weekend as the team welcomes Asbury University on Saturday. The Eagles have had a strong start to the season as the team enters the weekend at 7-1 having had their seven-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday in a loss to Alice Lloyd College.
Saturday's matchup will be just the second meeting between the Bruins and Eagles in their history. The two teams last played in the 2016-17 season with Asbury defeating BJU 102-95 in that matchup. Tip-off for Saturday's game is set for 2 p.m.
