Taking on a familiar opponent, the Bob Jones University women's basketball team picked up back to back wins against Warren Wilson in a 73-41 result in Asheville, North Carolina. With today's win, the Bruins have earned their fourth straight victory improving to 4-3 on the season.
"What a great outing tonight," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "We are in the midst of a really intense few weeks with lots of games, finals, academic projects, etc., and it was great to see us come out focused on the task at hand. The entire team came out and did exactly what we needed; worked hard on defense and rewarded that hard work by rebounding and taking good shots on the offensive end which resulted in a great scoreboard result. We weren't perfect by any means and that is the exciting thing, we can still improve a lot from here."
The Bruins and Owls met for the first time this season last Monday where the Bruins rallied from an early deficit to pull out the 70-58 win. Warren Wilson came into Friday's game still on the hunt for their first win of the season.Â
As the game got underway in Asheville, North Carolina, it was the Bruins who kicked off the scoring with back to back three pointers from Bethany Daulton and Tamrah Konieczka. While Warren Wilson battled back to take a slight advantage, the Bruins regained their lead to end the first quarter 19-8.Â
Shea Dickinson dropped a three pointer to kick off an 11 point run at the start of the second quarter. As the Bruins continued to battle, they saw themselves with the 41-19 advantage at halftime.
The Owls fought hard in the third quarter, but Bob Jones still saw a 26 point lead after 30 minutes of play.Â
The two teams exchanged baskets at the start of the fourth quarter, until the Bruins went on a seven point spree. At the final whistle it was the Bruins with the 73-41 victory over Warren Wilson to give the team their fourth straight victory of the season.Â
"It's hard to single individual effort out but Bethany Daulton led the way with a great game and many others followed her lead," said Coach LeViere. "Tonight we saw flashes of how good our passing can be with a lot of freshmen contributing a lot minutes as well. We were able to spread the minutes tonight and begin to get ready for another road trip tomorrow."
Up next, the Bruins will travel to Lookout Mountain, Georgia to take on Covenant College in a Saturday afternoon contest. Tip-off for tomorrow's game is set for 4 p.m.
