Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Kaitlyn Unruh

Bruins Bounce Back with Big South Region Victory Over Trinity Baptist College

The Bruins were rewarded with a big 78-59 victory as the women's basketball team closed out the regular-season against South region rivals, Trinity Baptist College. Three players ended the game in double figures, with senior Tamrah Konieczka showing out with 20 points and 6 rebounds.

"We moved the ball and found the open person a lot better that we have been doing," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "We were moving with purpose and intensity and let the ball find the open person and the open shooter. When they go out there with that confidence and follow through with finding the open shooter, good things happen. Our defense was good tonight, but our offense was the biggest difference where we were looking to find the open person and move the ball."

The Bruins started the game by honoring graduate students Delaney Edwards and Gracen Ledford as well as the team's seniors, Bailey Green, Bethany Daulton, Jessiann Wiedmann and Tamrah Konieczka. When talking about this graduating class, Coach LeViere talked highly of the seniors saying that "they are great young ladies who are people you'd want to hang out with and not just people you want to play basketball with and thankfully we get to do both. We're really happy these young ladies represent us and to be graduating from our program."

He continued by saying, "We've been in a bit of a canyon and haven't been playing very good basketball. They know it and I know it. It can be easy to throw in the towel when you're not playing very well, but this team never did that and that's a testament to our seniors and their leadership and attitudes and the fact that they buy in to what we're teaching. We're not going to play a perfect game until we get to heaven, but we're going to try and that's the most important thing."

Trinity would get off to an early lead in today's contest, but with just over three minutes left in the first quarter, the Bruins would claw back and hold the Eagles at 13 points while they went on a 16-point run to end the quarter leading 22-13. After 10 minutes of play, Tamrah Konieczka and Ainsley Hutton would be tied at six points apiece with Delaney Edwards close behind with five.

The point streak extended into the second quarter with Shea Dickinson making a layup for the Bruins. A minute later, the Eagles would make a free throw to get within 10 points of the Bruins and break the scoring spree started in the first quarter. The Bruins would keep their opponents around a 10 point deficit as the two teams exchanged baskets throughout the remainder of the half. Shea Dickinson would end the quarter with another layup to see the score increase to 37-27 in favor of the home team.

The second half started with the Bruins adding six more points to their total. In their final regular-season game, the Bruins continued to pass the ball well and it paid off as the Bruins saw an 18 point lead near the end of the third quarter. The Bruins were shooting 53% from the field and were 83% from the free-throw line in the third quarter. After 30 minutes of play, the Bruins still held the lead at 60-44.

The Bruins looked to close out today's game strong as they scored nine straight points at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Tamrah Konieczka closed out the scoring for the Bruins by sinking a three-point shot. The Bruins came out on top over the Eagles with a final score of 78-59 and moved to 9-14 overall this season and 4-3 in region play.

Three Bruins scored in the double figures today. Tamrah Konieczka had 20 points followed by Bethany Daulton with 15 and Delaney Edwards with 12 points.

Up next, the Bruins will travel to Jacksonville, Florida to compete in the NCCAA South Region tournament February 24-26.
