Blair Leads the Way as Bruins Notch South Region Win Over Toccoa Falls

The Bruins basketball team bounced back into the winning column on Tuesday night as four players scored in double figures to help the team defeat Toccoa Falls College 96-83. Henry Blair led the team with 29 points as the Bruins improve to 8-10 on the season and 4-1 in region play.

"We did the little things well tonight," Bruins Head Coach Burton Uwarow said. "Rebounding, defense, free throws, limiting turnovers and so much more. That was the difference in the game and it is the best game we've played all year."

The Bruins came into the game on the heels of a loss to Brevard College on Friday night. With just five games remaining in the regular season, the Bruins looked to close out the season strong as they welcomed Toccoa Falls College to the Davis Field House.

In the opening minutes, the Bruins and Screaming Eagles went back and forth trading baskets before Stephan Hugley scored two straights buckets in the paint to help spark a run and give the Bruins a 16-9 lead.

Toccoa came right back but the Bruins were able to play strong defensively which sparked their offense in transition points. Near the midway point of the half, Trevor Brunson threw down a dunk to give the Bruins the lead, but Toccoa Falls again battled back to tie the game 25-25.

As the first half began to come to a close, the Bruins got two big threes off the bench from Daniel Fuller as the senior hit a three with under a minute to play to give the Bruins a 44-33 lead. Joe Powell then added another long-range three for the Bruins right before time expired to give the Bruins a 47-35 lead at halftime.

The Bruins picked up where they left off to begin the second half as great ball movement led to open shots. Stephan Hugley again scored back to back buckets early on to help the Bruins maintain their double-digit lead. The Screaming Eagles tried to answer back as Lance Smith finished with a game-high 30 points for Toccoa, but the Bruins continued to match TFC point for point.

With just over four minutes to play in the game, another key three by Daniel Fuller stopped a Toccoa rally as the Bruins led 82-68. From there, the Bruins were able to make key shots down the stretch as they held off a late charge by Toccoa Falls to win 96-83.

Henry Blair finished the night shooting 71% from the floor with 29 points. Daniel Fuller was 3-6 from three-point range to finish with 16 points while Stephan Hugley had 15 points and Eli Cupples 13 to go along with 8 assists in the win.

Next up, the Bruins will be on the road on Thursday night for another South region matchup as the team faces Southeastern Baptist College in Laurel, Mississippi.
