From Legacy Early College field in Greenville, South Carolina, the Bruins fell 2-0 to Brevard College in their home opener. With today's result, the Bruins are now 0-2 on the season.
"We've had good moments in our games this season, but we haven't been able to find the net," said Bruins Head Coach Greg Fulton. "We're still early in the season and are still putting pieces together. It's not an easy game to lose, especially a home opener. We'll take the positives, learn, and take it forward into our games next week."
Both teams came looking for their first win of the season. The Bruins entered today's match after a 2-1 loss to Concord University on September 6 while the Tornados came into the game following three straight losses.
Brevard College went on the attack early and it paid off for them in the 24
th minute as they shot the ball right past Bruins goalkeeper Chris Monczewksi.
As the game continued, the Bruins looked for the equalizer, but they went into halftime still searching for a goal.
Coming out of the break, the Tornados doubled their lead just seven minutes into the second half. The Bruins continued fighting until the end of the game and saw good moments, including a shot by Sandro Martinez that hit the crossbar, but couldn't get the ball into the back of the net and fell 2-0 to Brevard College.
"We're on game two of the season, so it's hard to see how far we've come, but as we get halfway through I know we'll look back and see the growth," said Fulton.
Heading into practice and their upcoming games, Coach Fulton said that his team will find the nuggets of good and the nuggets of bad and work through them.
"The game is over. We can't change that, but we can change what's next," said Fulton. "So we focus on the things we need to get better at and then we take the good and try to grow that. I think it will start showing in these next few games."
Up next, the men's soccer team will make the trip Demorest, Georgia to face Piedmont University on Thursday.
