The Bruins are ready for back to back South region matchups this weekend as the team welcomes Trinity Baptist College and Pensacola Christian College to the Davis Field House. The Bruins come into the weekend on the heels of back to back victories including a big win over Johnson & Wales on Tuesday night.
The Bruins played well against the Wildcats as the team built a 20 point lead in the second half before holding off a late comeback by JWU to win 87-82. Henry Blair hit four threes for the Bruins to lead the way with 24 points while Stephan Hugley finished with a double-double 22 points and 12 rebounds.
The Bruins welcome Trinity Baptist on Friday and the Eagles have been red-hot this season and come into the weekend region matchup at 10-5. Trinity is currently ranked #5 overall in the NCCAA DII Top-Ten Coaches' poll while the Bruins come in at #10.
The Eagles have won and impressive seven of their last eight games and are currently in the midst of a five-game winning streak. In their last game, the Eagles won a four-overtime thriller over Florida Gateway College 119-115.
Friday's matchup will be 15th meeting between these two South region rivals with the Bruins posting a 9-5 record against TBC. Last season, the Bruins edged the Eagles in both matchups of the season including narrowly winning in the South region semifinal 55-53. Tip-off for Friday's game is scheduled for 8 p.m.
On Saturday, the Bruins will welcome another South region foe as the team faces rival Pensacola Christian College. PCC comes into the weekend at 5-13 but has won three of their last four games.
The Eagles held off Southeastern Illinois College on January 20 thanks to a double-double by Austin Lewis who finished with 27 points and 10 rebounds in the win. This will be the 17th meeting between the Bruins and Eagles with the Bruins posting an eight-game winning streak and a 10-6 record against their rival.
Last season, the Bruins defeated the Eagles 100-86 in Pensacola in their only matchup of the season. Saturday's game will be the first since the 2020 season in the Davis Field House for this rivalry. Tip-off for the game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
