The Bob Jones University women's basketball team opened up the second half of the 2022-23 season with a midseason exhibition in Lake Wales, Florida against Warner University. The Bruins fell behind at the end of the first quarter and never recovered as they fell 96-46 to the Royals.
"Our approach to this game was to use it like the exhibition it was and use it to prepare us for the 2nd half of the season," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "I told the team that this game was a good example of the scoreboard not being our measuring stick."
He continued by saying, "we worked on some specific things and tried to shake the cobwebs of Christmas Break and travel issues. Overall we performed very well and I believe this game will help us greatly in the future."
The Bruins entered today's contest after a narrow 71-74 loss to Sewanee on December 17. Today marked the third meeting between the Royals and Bruins with Warner University owning the 3-0 record.
A jumper from Bethany Daulton got the Bruins on the board first as the game got underway. They jumped out to a 5-2 lead after Catherine Skebo drained a three-pointer. With three minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Royals went on an 11 point run to take the lead. At the end of the first 10 minutes of play, Warner University lead 23-10.
In the second quarter, Tamrah Konieczka went for three to get the Bruins up to 13 points. Katrina Tabora tallied the last four points of the first half for the Bruins as they saw themselves down 22-43 heading into the break.
Warner continued to pull away in the third and fourth quarters and as the final whistle blew, the Bruins were unable to catch up and fell to the Royals in a 96-46 decision.
Katrina Tabora lead the Bruins today as the freshman came away with18 points and 7 rebounds.
Despite flight and travel issues heading into today, Coach LeViere said "it was great to get out on the court and be together as a team, even if we weren't all here yet! Everyone played significant minutes, and it was a good building block for the rest of this year and beyond."
Up next, the Bruins continue their Florida road trip with back to back games on Thursday and Friday in Kissimmee, Florida against Great Lakes Christian College and Johnson University of Florida.
