After battling for 90 minutes, the men's soccer team played to a 2-2 draw against Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Alabama. With today's tie, the Bruins sit at 8-3-3 on the season.
"There are days that just don't go your way and this was one of those days," said Head Coach Greg Fulton. "The team needed a wake up call and this trip gave us so many things to consider. We know winning games isn't easy and sometimes it takes getting sucker punched by a couple results to wake up and perform our best. We are in such a crucial time of the season and we will make sure we make the adjustments to go into post season at our best."
The Bruins continued their road trip over the fall break to Alabama to face the Huntingdon Hawks after playing to a 0-0 draw against NCCAA South Region rival Pensacola Christian College over the weekend. Tuesday's match marked the second meeting between the Bruins and the Hawks with the Bruins owning the 1-0 series record.Â
In the ninth minute of today's contest, James McCarty sent the ball into the attacking zone where Bryce Ramler's one timer put the Bruins on top 1-0.Â
The Hawks knotted the game up in the 16th minute as a shot from the top of the box sailed past Bruins goalkeeper Cameron Braswell.
Anthony Ruiz put the Bruins back in the lead just minutes later as Charly Gualajara fed the ball to Ruiz who went top shelf over the hands of the SWU goalkeeper.Â
The 2-1 advantage held for the next 60 minutes despite the Bruins peppering the goal with shots. In the 84th minute, the Hawks capitalized off of a set piece to score the equalizer. Despite out shooting the Hawks 25-4, the 2-2 scoreline held through the rest of the game.
Up next, the Bruins will travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina for a battle of the Bruins against Carolina University next Tuesday.
