Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Kaitlyn Unruh

Men's Soccer Shines on Senior Night

The men's soccer team wrapped up the regular season on a high note as they defeated Warren Wilson 4-1 from Alumni Stadium on Saturday night for Senior Night. With tonight's win, the Bruins have improved to 9-4-3 on the season.

"Tonight we had to work hard to do what we did. I saw the grittiness and a will to win regardless of who's putting the ball in the net and how it goes in," said Head Coach Greg Fulton. "We have the quality, and we have the will, and we have to do that together, and today was that day. We got the job done, and we're going to take that into postseason."

Bob Jones came into the weekend match looking to get back in the win column after a hard 2-1 loss on the road at Carolina University. On the other side of the pitch, Warren Wilson entered the game searching for their first win of the season.

Before the start of tonight's match, six seniors (James McCarty, Ian Arendse, Micah Hennegan, Hodari Twishime, Zach Burk, and Zawadi Kashindi) were honored for their contributions to the men's soccer program.

From the whistle, the Bruins maintained possession and began working towards their first goal. In the 22nd minute, Micah Hennegan perfectly passed the ball into the box to Jake Provenzano who netted the first goal of the game. The home team kept pushing for another goal, but as both teams went into halftime, the 1-0 result still stood.

After the break, the Bruins continued pressuring. With Just over 22 minutes left in the match, Ian Arendse sailed a shot on frame. His shot bounced off the crossbar where Jake Provenzano collected in front of the net and sent another shot into the back of the net to double the Bruins lead.

Less than 10 minutes later, Provenzano wrote his name on the scoresheet one more time with a big shot from the top corner of the box to record his first career hat trick.

But the Bruins weren't done. In the 83rd minute, Rhys Solomon used his speed to cut around several defenders and made his way to the left side of the inside of the box where he took a nifty shot off his right foot to score the fourth goal of the night.

With just seconds left on the clock, the Owls look a corner kick. As the ball was headed towards the net, an accidental touch by a Bruins defender notched a goal for Warren Wilson.

At the final whistle, the Bruins still held to their 4-1 lead to claim the Senior Night victory.

Up next, the Bruins will travel to Toccoa Falls, Georgia to chase another NCCAA South Region title.
