The men's soccer team made their way up the road to Spartanburg, South Carolina Tuesday afternoon where they opened their preseason campaign with a 5-1 win against Spartanburg Methodist College.
"It's great to finally be back on the field," said Head Coach Greg Fulton. "Today was a crucial part of our preseason as we are starting to find out what pieces we have. We had several bright spots today, which is always good to see. More importantly though we see what we must improve on to succeed this year and that is invaluable to our growth as a team."
Preseason training began last Thursday for the team where several new recruits met up with a core group of returners to begin preparations for the start of the 2023 season.
Today's matchup against the Pioneers marked just the third meeting in program history. Their first two meetings were back in 2017 and 2018 where Spartanburg Methodist shutout the Bruins in each contest.Â
Throughout today's match, the Bruins tallied five goals resulting in a 5-1 victory with goals coming from Hodari Twishime, Malachi Ray-Tharpe, Anthony Ruiz as well as a brace from Charly Gualajara.
Looking ahead Coach Fulton said, "we now look to recover and get back to work improving as we approach the start of the season!"
Up next, the Bruins will travel to Tigerville, South Carolina on Saturday to take on NCAA DII opponent North Greenville University. Kickoff for Saturday's game is scheduled for 10 a.m. You can follow the team all season long atÂ
