The Bob Jones University women's soccer remain undefeated as they picked up a 3-0 victory over Allen University Saturday afternoon in Columbia, South Carolina. With today's result the Bruins have earned their fourth clean sheet of the season and have improved to a 3-0-3 record.
"I am proud of the team for grinding through some tactical challenges against a strong up and coming NCAA DII team," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "We were having some technical let downs the first half but despite that we were able to create enough goal scoring opportunities to finish the game. The second half was much better as our possession improved and we were able to create a lot more space."
The Bruins would make the 90 minute trip to SE Freight Lines Soccer Complex in Columbia, South Carolina to face the Allen University Yellow Jackets for the first time.Â
As today's game got underway, the Bruins were knocking early. After back-to-back corner kicks in the first couple minutes of the match, Gabriela Gonzalez would find the back of the net off of the assist from Mia Marks in just the 3rd minute.Â
The Bruins looked to increase their advantage and after each team exchanged shots, Gabriela Gonzalez was able to capitalize again in the 17th minute with the assist by Rylee Johnson. The 2-0 lead held for Bob Jones through the rest of the first half.Â
Looking to improve on the technical side of their game in the second half, the Bruins pressed for another goal. Coming off of the bench in second half, Ashlyn Schmidt found the space to score the third goal of the afternoon to secure the 3-0 win for the Bruins squad.Â
When speaking of his team, Coach Carmichael mentioned that Gabriela Gonzalez proved to be a difference maker while Ashlyn Schmidt notched her first goal of the season and created several other goal scoring opportunities. On defense, Braden Adams, Jessica Townsend, Francesca Peters, and Jane Farr were stalwart while Margaret Cummings was outstanding in net making six saves in the shutout.Â
"Even through our struggle of possessing, each player contributed and continued to push through for a great win," said Ashlyn Schmidt.
Following the game, Coach Carmichael said, "we know we have to get much better in many ways but the good news is that we are finding success and have not come close to hitting our stride. That bodes well as we move further into the season as we have seen steady improvement. We will now turn our attention to another NCAA DII opponent."
Up next, the Bruins will host King University on Saturday for an early afternoon match at Alumni Stadium.
