Late Equalizer Sees Bruins Remain Undefeated

The women's soccer team remains undefeated this season after earning a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Centre College in Danville, Virginia Tuesday afternoon.

"Words can't describe how proud I am of this team," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael.  "All season long they continue to grind through 90 minutes, and today they never gave up today to tie a top NCAA DIII program. Centre is an amazing team and to come from behind and tie a quality program is a testament of what an awesome hard working team this is. Sometimes you get a signature win and sometimes it's a signature tie such as this game. Every single player helped either directly or indirectly and this was a total team effort all the way through. Our defense continued to take away a lot of their offensive power and along with our midfield, wingers and strikers did a fantastic job with possessing and creating a number of great goal scoring opportunities."

The Bruins came into Tuesday's game less than 24 hours after Monday's match at Campbellsville University Harrodsburg where they dominated 5-0.

From the whistle, Centre College took charge of the game and began to pepper the Bruins goal with shots. The Bruins worked together and with 10 minutes left on the clock in the first half looked to get the go ahead goal as they pressed for several goal scoring chances.

After the halftime break, the Colonels came out aggressive once again and in the 75th minute capitalized on one of their many shots to take the 1-0 lead. Not backing down, the Bruins fought to find the equalizer. Their time would come in the 86th minute, as Sarah Ward crossed the ball in front of the net where Mia Marks settled and scored to tie the game.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw with Centre College outshooting the Bruins 38-10 with Bruins keeper Margaret Cummings making 13 saves on the day.

Following the game Assistant Coach Anna Grace Abrams said, "the girls did an amazing job on the defensive side to keep us in the game against a top NCAA DIII team. The team continues to improve game by game and it's been fun to watch. I am very proud of the effort and relentlessness in this game after going down 1-0 in the 2nd half. We possessed the ball well and found little pockets of space to get forward to find the equalizer in the last few minutes of the game. I'm excited to watch these girls continue to work together and improve as we move in to the rest of our season!"

"The team's effort and energy throughout the whole game was unbeatable," said Sarah Ward. "Everyone pushed through until the end and it paid off. I'm super proud of all the girls today."

"We praise God for his continued faithfulness in helping each player to be the best they can be," said Carmichael. "This is truly an amazing team."

The Bruins have one final test tomorrow as they round out their road trip against Asbury University at 4 p.m. in Wilmore, Kentucky.
