Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Kaitlyn Unruh

Bruins Fall to Scots in Action-Packed Match

After 90 minutes of action, the men's soccer team fell in a 2-1 defeat to Covenant College Tuesday afternoon in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. With today's result, the Bruins are now 0-1-1 on the season.

"This result is a tough pill to swallow. We were simply outworked in this game and took entirely too long to match the effort and intensity," said Head Coach Greg Fulton. "It is still really early in our season, and this is only a true loss if we don't grow from it."

The Bruins came into the match after a 1-1 draw in their season opener against Brevard College Friday night. With two regular season games under their belt, Covenant College entered with a 0-0-2 record after playing to 0-0 draws against Emory University and Oglethorpe University over the weekend.

As the game got underway, both teams saw several scoring opportunities early on. The Bruins continued to send shots towards Covenant's net, but several strong defensive saves by the Scots kept the game scoreless.

With 15 minutes remaining in the first half, the Scots went on the attack but thanks to the crossbar, the score remained deadlocked.

In the 34th minute, the Bruins earned a corner kick on the far side of the field. On the delivery by Ian Arendse, Dallas Albert jumped up to head the ball into the back of the net to give the Bruins the go ahead goal.

But the lead wouldn't last long. Less than five minutes later, Covenant would earn their first corner kick of the match where they would similarly head the ball into the goal to tie the game.

After the halftime break, the Scots wasted no time as they went on the attack early but Bruins goalkeeper Cameron Braswell came up with a couple of big stops. But a yellow card on the Bruins led to a free kick in the 52nd minute where Covenant converted and took the 2-1 lead.

The Bruins continued to battle, but at the end of 90 minutes saw their first loss of the season as they fell to Covenant College.

"We are determined to use this game as fuel for improvement and will be anxious to get back on the field," said Fulton.

The Bruins are back in Greenville, South Carolina and will play their home opener on Saturday night with a NCCAA south region showdown against Trinity Baptist College at 7:30 p.m.
