Bruins Fall to the Screaming Eagles in Tight Contest

The Bruins hosted Toccoa Falls College tonight for their second straight home game of the semester. The Bruins played a tough game, but they fell short 65-59 in the fourth quarter.

At the tip-off Shea Dickinson went up, but couldn't bring it down for the Bruins. The Screaming Eagles struck first with a layup, but the Bruins answered with a score of their own. Much of the first quarter went back and forth, but the Bruins were playing some good defense to stop the Screaming Eagles from running up the score early. Through the first 10 minutes of the play trailed 16-11

The Bruins continued to play a tough TFC team and battled through the adversity. The grit and determination kept the Bruins in the game. At the 5:30 mark, the Bruins hit back-to-back threes by Shea Dickinson and Anna Layne Wylder to take their first lead of the game 26-24. Bria Dickinson followed that up by scoring another two-point shot to extend the lead. The Bruins would go into the half hold a 33-28 lead.

Coming out of the half, the Screaming Eagles with a quick tempo outpacing the Bruins for most of the quarter. Trailing by several possessions, the Bruins were able to pull back to within a point after shooting back-to-back threes. They kept it close, but couldn't quite regain the lead in the final minutes as the quarter ended 49-46 Bruins trailing.

Annie Miller started the quarter for the Bruins with a jumper. Caitlyn Dickerson tied the game back up and got the and one to go up 51-50 with 7:30 left to play. The next several minutes were tough as the Bruins struggled to score any points. The scoring drought couldn't be overcome as the Bruins fell in the final minutes to the Screaming Eagles 65-59.

"Toccoa is a top ranked team and we definitely walk away feeling like we should've won," started Head Coach Mike LeViere. "We hurt ourselves by not finishing at the rim like we know we can. In a close game against a good team, little things count. So we'll just go back to work on making those things better."

Up next, the Bruins will continue their home game streak against rival Pensacola Christian College Friday night at 5:00 p.m. in the Davis Field House.
