Afternoon Sun and Another Win

The Bruins took on the Campbellsville-Harrodsburg Pioneers under the afternoon sun and came away with a big 8-0 win.

"The team came out strong and took advantage of the space available," Head Coach Chris Carmichael said. "They were able to keep Campbellsville on their heals for most of the game."

It was another match controlled by the Bruins right from the opening whistle. The first of eight goals today was scored in the 8th minute by Bruins goal leader, Mia Marks who was assisted by defender Abby Arrowood for her first listed stat of the season. Even with a lot of scoring opportunities, the score stayed 1-0 until the 28th minute when the Bruins broke the barrier. Mia Marks scored her second goal of the day, this time assisted by Jane Farr. Less than two minutes later, Elli Cummings joined the scoring with her first goal of the match in the 30th minute. Then the Bruins scored again in the 34th and 36th minute with goals from Mady Pfaffenroth and Sylvia Cummings. The Bruins went into halftime with a 5-0 lead.

"Our movement was fluid and it allowed us to exploit space with good possessions," Coach Carmichael said.

This match allowed for a steady rotation of Bruins players who got to play in different positions than normal. The second half had a lot of excitement as the Bruins were trying to get goalkeeper Margaret Cummings a goal since she was playing in the field today while Kali Jackson guarded the goal. It was Estrella Cruz that scored first in the half for the Bruins with a goal in the 47th minute to make it 6-0. That was her first goal of the season. The big moment of excitement came in the 82nd minute when Margaret Cummings received a pass from Celeste Baladi and put it into the back of the net for the first goal of her career! Then to cap off the match, Elli Cummings scored a header off a cross from Myleigh Shaw in the 86th minute to give the Bruins an 8-0 lead which held till the final whistle.

Coach Carmichael credited his whole team on the big win today. "Every player had an exceptional day and this was a total team effort to get the win," he said. "Also, the three Cummings sisters were firing on all cylinders and each contributed to our goals scored."

Along with crediting his team, Coach Carmichael also credited the fan base. "I would also like to thank our fan base and staff that always helps make our home matches run smoothly."

Goal-scorer Margaret Cummings credited her team for a great game. "I am proud of the girls today and the work they put in to dominate the game," she said. "From start to finish the girls showed determination and creativity. Some players got to play in different positions and got to see other perspectives on the field which led to outstanding combination plays and goals."

Jessica Townsend enjoyed today's match. "Today was a fun game and a great opportunity for everyone to get some minutes in," she said. "I'm really proud of my team. I also really appreciate the effort that Campbellsville put in today. They kept working hard and never gave up. I'm excited for this weekend and another opportunity to play this beautiful game."

The team from Campbellsville-Harrodsburg was so gracious and brought a hurricane relief donation for the team to pass along to the relief efforts here in Greenville and up into North Carolina. Everyone from Bruin Nation is extremely grateful for the donation.

After winning three games in four days, the Bruins get a few days before their next match on Saturday against NCAA DII Emmanuel University at 4 p.m. at Alumni Stadium!
