Women's Basketball Picks Up Win Over Wesleyan College

The Bob Jones University women's basketball opened the new month with a 70-55 home victory over Wesleyan College on Monday night. With today's win, the Bruins have improved to 4-5 on the season.

"Coming off of the turkey break, we are happy to get the W," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "It wasn't our sharpest game ever, but it was enough to get the win, and we're thankful for that."

Bob Jones and Wesleyan College met earlier this season on November 18 where the Bruins pulled out the 60-42 victory. Today's game marked the sixth meeting between the two programs with the Bruins holding the 5-0 all-time series record entering Monday's contest.

As today's game got underway, the Bruins went on an 8-0 run highlighted by back-to-back threes by Anna Layne Wylder. After 10 minutes of play, the Bruins led the Wolves 16-7.

Jenna Brooks opened the second quarter scoring with a layup. Halfway through the quarter, the Wolves got within five points with a made three before Anna Layne Wylder hit another three-point shot followed by another three-pointer by Imani Pouncey. At halftime, the Bruins led 38-24.

The third quarter opened with a shot from deep by Jenna Brooks. Despite the Wolves battling back after the break, the Bruins narrowly out-scored the Wolves 15-14 thanks to a massive three-pointer by Caitlyn Dickerson to put the Bruins ahead 53-38.

A three-point contest opened the final 10 minutes of play with both teams sinking shots outside the arc. Wesleyan College continued to work to cut at their deficit and with 3:38 left in the game trailed by 12 points. Bob Jones held them to just four points in the final minutes. At the final buzzer, the Bruins finished ahead 70-55 over Wesleyan College.

Four Bruins finished the game in double figures with Jenna Brooks leading the way with 14 followed by Anna Layne Wylder (13), Kayley Trump (12), and Faith Hayward (12).

Following the game, Coach LeViere shared that he was "happy overall with our defense and running our defensive scheme the way we did. Overall we saw improvement in the stats from when we played at their place a couple of weeks ago. Coming back with a quick game after the break, it's easy to have a little letdown, but I was happy with our performance."

Up next, the Bruins will travel to North Carolina to face Brevard College on Friday night.
