The Bob Jones University men's basketball team shined in an 88-60 NCCAA South Region victory over Johnson University Florida Saturday night. With today's win, the Bruins have improved to 13-3 on the season with a perfect 11-0 record at home and an undefeated 8-0 conference run.
"This was our best, most complete performance of the year," said Head Coach Burton Uwarow. "Again, we had five guys in double figures and were close to having six. We created 14 turnovers in the first half were able to convert most of those turnovers into points for us. We had 25 points off of their turnovers for the game. I am thrilled that everyone had a chance to contribute tonight. We had an incredible 27 defensive rebounds tonight and had 36 total rebounds. I'm especially proud of the contribution of our seniors. They set the tone for all that we accomplish."
The festivities for today got underway at halftime of the women's basketball game as the Bruins recognized and honored seniors Elijah Cupples, Kenney Garrick, and Samuel Daniel for their hard work and dedication to the men's basketball program.
Back to back layups by Trevor Brunson and a three from Hayes Brush opened today's game 7-0 in favor of the Bruins. Just five minutes into the game, Shad Vander Hart dropped a shot from outside the arc to push the Bruins to a double digit lead. The Bruins didn't look back and continued to play well through the rest of the first half. BJU dropped three back to back to back three pointers to close out the half ahead 51-23.
After the break, the Suns worked to cut down at their deficit with an early exchange of buckets. But the Bruins maintained a 20 plus point advantage while shooting 50% from the field and 80% from the free throw line. A layup by Caleb Owens closed out the game as the Bruins finished with the 88-60 NCCAA South Region victory.
Each Bruins player hit the court today with five Bruins finishing the contest in double figures with Trevor Brunson leading the way with 21. Hayes Brush came away with 14 points and eight rebounds. Elijah Cupples recorded 13 points with Kenney Garrick and Shad Vander Hart each adding 12 to the scoreline.
Up next, the Bruins are back at the Davis Field House for a Monday night matchup against Carolina Christian College.
