Bruins Get Two Wins in Two Days

The Bruins add another win this weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina after defeating the Meredith College Angels 2-0 off the goals of Sylvia Cummings and Mady Pfaffenroth.

"The team did a phenomenal job today establishing an early rhythm of play that really helped us dominate possession throughout the game," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael. "That ultimately created numerous overloads that led to two fantastic goals by Sylvia Cummings and Madi Pfaffenroth."

The first half brought limited chances by both teams. Even though possession was strong for the Bruins, offensive movement in towards goal only happened a couple times for either team most the half. Then just three minutes before the half in the 42nd minute, Sylvia Cummings had a great run ending with her second goal in as many games. The goal was assisted by her sister Elli Cummings.

The Bruins kept momentum and control to open the second half. In the 60th minute, Mady Pfaffenroth scored her first career goal to extend the Bruins lead 2-0. This lead was held firm until the final whistle. Even though the Angels had double the amount of shots, they struggled to score due to the strong defense shown again by the Bruins. The Bruins also dominated the possession game which helped lead to victory.

Coach Carmichael credits the whole team for doing a phenomenal job today by saying "Reagan Tierney and Shannon Miller did a fantastic job controlling the midfield and our back line of Abby Arrowood, Elli Cummings, Celeste Baladi, and Jane Farr all did an amazing job with not only defending very well but continually started our attacks that lead to one of our goals."

After the game, Elli Cummings said "We came into this game strong but it took us a little while to settle into possession. Eventually, we began to break down their defense. We played our game and Sylvia pulled through with a great goal to give us momentum to come out on top with a win."

Now the Bruins have a week off until their next game against Covenant College on September 6. That game will take place on the road in Lookout Mountain, Georgia with a 5:30 p.m. kickoff.
