Bruins Fall on the Road to the Crusaders

The Bruins fall 3-0 on the road tonight against the Belmont Abbey College Crusaders.

"We continue to show moments that are really good quality," said Head Coach Greg Fulton, "but we still struggle to play a consistent 90 minutes. Tonight was about growth, regardless of the scoreline."

The Bruins had only ever played against the Crusaders in a spring match which resulted in a 1-0 loss. The first half brought spurts of opportunities for the Bruins offense which included a shot from Reid Burgin that went off the post from roughly 25 yards out. Other offensive runs up the field also came up empty. The score was 0-0 until the Crusaders good ball movement led to a goal in the 34th minute making it 1-0 which held until the end of the half.

The second half brought a similar story for the Bruins offense with a few good opportunities but zero goals to speak for them. The Crusaders scored pretty quickly into the second half in the 50th minute and then again in the 65th minute. The game ended in the 3-0 score. Even with the loss, this presented the Bruins with good competition and allowed most players to see the field and gain experience.

"We know each season is a marathon," said Coach Fulton. "Growing pains are required to hit our peak, but the objective stays the same and we will continue to work hard and grow."

Up next for the Bruins is another away game against a quality opponent in Maryville College. It will mark the first time the Bruins play the Maryville Scots in regular season play.
