The Bruins beat the Greensboro College Pride tonight in front of their home crowd at Alumni Stadium with a final score of 4-1.
The Bruins did struggle a little bit with messy passes but Head Coach Greg Fulton is assured that when the Bruins play their game, it'll all work out. "When our mentality is on, we're a fantastic team, but when we're off, we struggle in certain areas."
The first half brought big time possession for the Bruins, but it was the Pride that struck first. Brady Mowers took advantage of a bad pass by Cameron Braswell and put the ball in the net in the 11th minute making the score 1-0. It did take a decent amount of time for the Bruins to answer back, but it was in the 40th minute when defender Dallas Albert made a heads up play after a corner kick to score his first goal of the season which tied it 1-1 going into halftime.
"We handed opportunities away," said Coach Fulton. "I was frustrated going into halftime, but the attitude and mentality was off and it wasn't until we stepped back onto the field in the second half that our mentality shifted."
It was very quickly into the second half that the Bruins had a great possession that ended with goal by Bryce Ramler in the 50th minute assisted by Will Hotckin. That marked Ramler's first goal of the season as well. Then just four minutes later, the Pride gave the Bruins their third goal of the game with an own goal. The score remained 3-1 for most of the remainder of the game, but everyone could tell the Bruins wanted another one. A few attacks towards the end of the match finally led to a goal by Jake Provenzano in the last minute, making the final score 4-1.
"Their goalie was phenomenal tonight," Coach Fulton said. "There were a lot of things that were frustrating, but we take the positives and we go with them. This is the first of a six game mini-season that we have and we want to win all six. This was a huge step in that direction as we got the result that we wanted."
The Bruins have a few days off before heading to Southern Wesleyan University to look for a win on the road. Kickoff for that match is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
