Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Kaitlyn Unruh

Women's Basketball Team Falls to Pfeiffer University

The Bob Jones University women's basketball team was back in action after the Christmas break as they fell in a 75-49 decision to Pfeiffer University Monday night. After tonight's loss, the Bruins now sit at 5-8 on the season.

"Tonight isn't how we wanted to start the semester, but we now have an opportunity to test our mental toughness and discipline," said Head Coach Mike LeViere. "We didn't do a lot of things well tonight and that was reflected in the score. Our defense wasn't good. We didn't rebound well. We couldn't break their press well. Add that up and it was what we might imagine for a first game back from a long break. We will have another test on Friday night to see if we can respond better."

The Falcons got off to a hot start scoring 12 straight and holding off the Bruins for over five minutes without a point. Jenna Brooks finally opened the account for the Bruins with a jumper. This helped the Bruins come alive as BJU came back with some crucial points to get into the game. Caitlyn Dickerson's shot wrapped up the first quarter as the Bruins trailed 18-12.

Pfeiffer opened the second quarter with a three pointer to regain a double digit lead before Anna Layne Wylder responded with a drive to the basket for Bob Jones. Pfeiffer continued to force turnovers and out rebound the Bruins to push to a 44-23 lead at halftime.

Bob Jones recorded six straight points as they looked to cut at their deficit to start the third quarter. The Bruins outscored the Falcons 14-12 in the third quarter, but still trailed 56-36 heading into the final 10 minutes. The Bruins were unable to come back in the final quarter and ultimately fell to Pfeiffer University with a final score of 75-49.

Anna Layne Wylder led the Bruins with 17 points followed by Jenna Brooks with 15.

Up next, the Bruins will face off against region rival Pensacola Christian College on their home court on Friday, January 17 at 5 p.m.
