The Bruins cross country teams are all set to compete for another national championship in Joplin, Missouri tomorrow.
The men will race first at 10:45 a.m. with the women following after at 12:30 p.m. The Bruins will face off with Crown College, Alice Lloyd College, Boyce College, Maranatha Baptist University, and more.
As the men hit the starting line tomorrow, they will be competing for the 10th straight national championship for the program. The men's team has dominated the NCCAA cross country landscape for nearly a decade, but there are a few teams that will try to knock them off and believe they have the ability to do so. The Bruins, though, have a game plan to stay on top. No one on the men's team has raced this course before, but after a couple course previews, they are ready.
The course offers many opportunities for the Bruins to surge past opponents with its straightaways and tight turns. The rolling hills on the course also plays to the advantage of the Bruins because that's the kind of terrain they are used to in Greenville.
The women's team is looking to win their fourth national championship in five years. Unlike the men, they do have a couple runners with experience on this course in Joplin, Missouri. Seniors Elizabeth Farley and Lauren Jones both raced in Joplin in 2022 when the Bruins won the national championship during their freshman season. After coming up just short last season, they will look to reclaim the crown tomorrow.
