Bruins Shutout Screaming Eagles to Win Third Straight Region Championship Title

The Bob Jones University women's soccer team shutout Toccoa Falls College 4-0 to earn their third straight NCCAA DII South Region Championship title Saturday afternoon in Toccoa Falls, Georgia. With today's win, the Bruins have improved to 6-7-5 on the season and have secured a spot at the NCCAA DII National Tournament to be played in Kissimmee, Florida November 17-22.

"We played our best football this afternoon and have pulled everything together at the right time. The team worked incredibly hard and were constantly dangerous in the attacking third," said Head Coach Chris Carmichael.

As today's game got underway, the top-seeded Bruins wasted no time as Amelia Peters put away the first goal of the game in the first ten minutes of the match. Soon after, Myleigh Shaw doubled the lead for the Bruins off of an assist by Elli Cummings. South Region Player of the Year, Francesca Aurednik recorded her 11th goal of the season to wrap up the first half for the Bruins.

The 3-0 lead held for the first 20 minutes of the second half until Shaw put another one into the back of the net for Bob Jones. At the final whistle, the 4-0 result held and the Bruins were crowned the NCCAA DII South Region champions for the eighth time in program history.

"Today's win means everything to us," said Amelia Peters following the game. "We fought for every point, and I couldn't be more proud of our team. Everyone gave it their all and left it all on the field. I can't wait to see what else we can accomplish."

About today's performance, Elli Cummings said, "today's performance showed how far we've come as a team. We came out strong, played with purpose, and supported one another from start to finish. We connected well today and were able to finish strong."

"I am proud of this team," said Francesca Aurednik. "We moved the ball well and played the way we know how. I am hoping we keep this going at nationals."

"I thought the team came out strong and played with a lot of speed and intensity," said goalscorer Myleigh Shaw. "We were able to pass and find the space to constantly threaten the opposing defense. I'm excited to see us carry this intensity and teamwork with us into the national tournament."

When speaking of his team, Coach Carmichael said, "Francesca Aurednik and Elli Cummings gave us a lot of speed on the wings and were connecting beautifully with our strikers. Our midfield was solid in possession and our backs did a phenomenal job keeping our attacks alive and were able sustain connections into the attacking third. I'm extremely proud and thankful for all of our players and coaching staff's hard work to win our region and look forward to competing for another national championship. I am extremely blessed to have such an amazing team."

Up next, the Bruins travel to Kissimmee, Florida to compete at the NCCAA DII National Tournament from November 17-22.
