Though the game remained close in the high intensity Boshamer Gymnasium at Brevard College, the Bruins could not overcome the hot shooting by the Tornados and fall on the road 100-86.
The Bruins got out to a hot start in the first five minutes of the game and took an early 10-point lead. They were able to attack the rim against a Tornados defense that looked unready for the Bruins intensity. Once both teams settled in, it became tight down the stretch of the half. Brevard was able to go on a small run through a flurry of three-pointers and take the lead. The Bruins went into halftime with a 52-44 deficit. Bryson Felder and Brandon Wilkins both led the team with double-digit scoring in the half.
The Bruins found themselves down as much as 18 points in the second half, but they were able to claw back in the game and make it a tight matchup again. The Bruins were able to outlast the Tornados at the Davis Field House a few weeks ago, but could not do so on the road tonight. They were able to bring it back within two points with eight and half minutes left in the game. Brevard answered back with five three-pointers in just a few minutes to bounce back in front with a large lead. The Bruins showed grit until the end, but fell 100-86.
Five Bruins scored double-digits tonight with Shad Vander Hart and Braxton Murray both scoring 12. Justin Skelton followed with 15 points of his own. Brandon Wilkins led the team with 20 points and Bryson Felder finished with 19.
The Bruins now finish the semester with two exhibition games against NCAA DI schools in Furman University and Winthrop University coming up next week.Â
