Second Half Explosion Gives the Bruins a Big Win

Five second half goals for the Bruins lead to a big 5-1 win over the USC Salkehatchie Indians for their first win of the 2025 season.

"We're proud of the way the boys persevered tonight, especially after a frustrating first half," Assistant Coach Ryan McCarty said.

In the first half, the Bruins and the Indians had the same amount of shots with equal opportunity. For the first 20 minutes of the game, it felt like only a matter of time that either team put one away. The Indians had quick players on the offensive side, and the Bruins back line held strong for nearly the whole game. The only slip up came in the 21st minute when the Indians scored to break the 0-0 tie off of an incredible play of ball movement around the box. After that, the Bruins defense acted as a brick wall. The Bruins could not answer back in the first half, so they trailed 1-0 at halftime.

Right out of halftime, the Bruins played with a sense of urgency on the offensive side of the ball. They held possession for the majority of the second half. The icebreaker came in the 68th minute when the Bruins won a corner kick which was taken by David Issa. Due to a misread by the Indians goalkeeper, the ball found its way into the net, and the score was tied 1-1. Issa was credited with the goal. It took less than 20 seconds for the floodgates to break when Bryce Ramler scored to make it 2-1. This goal gave the Bruins a spark of energy that led to three more goals. Speedster Pierre Jean Philippe scored two goals in three minutes to extend the lead to 4-1. The excellent half was capped off by freshman Bucky Provenzano connecting with fellow freshman Jackson Reinhard for Reinhard's first collegiate goal. The Bruins second half explosion ended in a 5-1 win.

"We're still early in the season and the guys worked hard for this result," Coach McCarty said after the game. "I believe in this team and what we're going to accomplish this year.

The Bruins are back on the pitch Thursday, September 4 as they travel to Shorter University for a 4:00 p.m. kickoff.
